Flagstaff closes Auction, landing Simmons, Erlin

Flagstaff came into the Auction with several pressing needs. On the final day of the annual event, Flagstaff learned they had won bids on shortstop Andrelton Simmons and pitcher Robbie Erlin.

“Getting Erlin was an obvious need to acquire more innings,” Outlaws GM Greg Newgard said. “With Jonathan Villar already on board slated to play shortstop, it seems redundant to go after another shortstop, but we’d had already planned on temporarily moving Simmons to third base.”

The only issue is that Flagstaff spent most of its remaining cap money on the two signings.

“We still need relievers, but there weren’t a lot going to be a lot in the early rounds of the draft that made sense to go after. We need a corner outfield off the bench and some infielder bench help. With just five players spots left. It’ll be fun seeing if we can fill those spots by the time the 1M rounds come up.”
