Outlaws rustle Shaw from the Law Dogs
After missing out on Tommy Hunter when the Salem Cowtippers swooped in on a nearly consummated deal, the Kansas Law Dogs turned up and offered up a consolation prize: Bryan Shaw.
“Hunter would have been a great addition,” Outlaws GM Greg Newgard said. “but we didn’t close the deal as aggressively as we could have. Shaw doesn’t have the numbers that Hunter has, but he’ll fit a key role for our bullpen.”
In return for Shaw, Flagstaff sends 3B Sheldon Neuse and 1B Ryan O’Hearn back to aid their rebuilding effort.
“Both players were solid corner IF bats of the future, but with Goldschmidt and Shaw on the corners, we felt this was a move we could make from a depth standpoint,” Newgard explained. “We just felt we needed another good arm in the bullpen and we could buy now instead of waiting on a bidding war for a bigger name.”
